Can You Really Look Younger?
71Before and After Photos
The four things we notice as we age:
- Discoloration
- Larger pores
- Texture changes and becomes more ruddy
- Lines and wrinkles.
When we are young we produce humectants in abundance in the body.
The job of humectants is to attract moisture from the air, this is what keeps the skin soft and supple.
At approximately the age of 23-25 years the production of humectants in the body slows down and on average by age 30 years we are only producing about half the amount.
Therefore we do not attract as much moisture from the air anymore and the skin begins to age.
We relate this to a nice ripe plum, slowly take the moisture out and we end up with a prune. Look at a baby then a 90 year old and we see the same thing.
What most companies say is the reason we age is we lose moisture to the skin so lets hold the moisture in.
What they do is put good ingredients in the bottom of the jar of moisturizer that feed the skin, then fill the product up with a filler. The most common filler is a petroleum derivative e.g. mineral oil or parafins. These are oil based fillers. The skin is about 80-85% water so why would we want to apply oil based products to our skin?
Imagine having a bowl of water then adding some oil. Mix the oil in and you will see it always floats to the top. The same happens when we put an oil based product on the skin, it sits on the surface creating a plastic bag effect. The skin is designed to breath and you excrete about 30% of toxins through the skin, The skin is designed to attract moisture from the air. By putting an oil based product on the skin this interferes with the natural process of the skin.
To demonstrate hydration v lubrication you can put some baby oil in a jar (which is mineral oil) add a dried apricot and leave it in there. You will see the oil never penetrates the skin of the apricot – this is showing lubrication. In another jar put some NuSkin NaPCA moisture mist add another dried apricot and over 4-24 hours you will see the apricot hydrate and fill back out to its original size. (See photo below).
Cell Renewal
The other thing that happens when we age is our cell renewal slows down. In our 20’s this process takes about 3-4 weeks, by the time we are in our 40’s it can take up to 9 weeks. That is why that as we age although we may sleep well we can still look tired and that is because our skin looks tired. This is when you can add a skin treatment product to your basic skincare system that helps to quicken the cell renewal process revealing younger, smoother healthier looking skin and takes that tired look out of the skin.
Toners
A lot of people say they don’t like using toners and this step is commonly omitted from a skincare routine. This is because a lot of toners have an alcohol base and dries the skin out, They put the alcohol in as this will help remove all the makeup from the pores of the skin. Look for toners that have a witch hazel base, its job is to finish the cleansing process and tighten the pores of the skin which will in turn lead to your moisturizer working better. If the pores of the skin are left open that is when bacterier can enter the skin, so it is very important to use a toner to close the pores.
When a person first uses a new skincare range they need to be aware that it takes for the skin to go through its whole cell renewal process to see all the benefits. This can take from 4-10 weeks depending on the persons age. So be prepared to give your skin time to adjust.
With the correct skin care treatment, you can certainly slow down the aging process and in some cases reverse it.
I always think if you look good you feel good.
